With introduction by John Jacob Niles and preface by Jonathan Williams. Scarce first edition of this collection of photography of rural American life in the Appalachian Mountains in the early to mid 20th century. Jacket now protected in recent (removable) archival sleeve but with some scuffing and small stained areas to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Larger tear to top left corner of back cover with tape adhered to interior or side. Liquid damage to bottom edge of jacket and boards near spine causing staining and waviness. Board corners bumped. Binding is firm and spine remains fairly straight. Pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.Packaged with care and shipped via USPS Media Mail
